I always try to have someone (usually Fury) save them from their fate, it never works.

Wow... I guess they can't survive due to the storyline but can you really save them as far as that chapter goes?

Well, I used Fury as A blocker diversion until I capture then castle that's in the middle of the desert. But once you do they disappear from the map regardless. So they technically "live" but not really as the game still considers them dead.
